Tania is the brains, the boss, founder and
artistic director of Music Theatre Australia and Pot-Pourri. At the opposite
spectrum, she has a Bachelor of Law (with Honours, no
less!), but don't let that fool you - she's
really quite a nice person...
Perhaps most inspiring of all,
Tania is founder and president of the arts charity The Song Room which has reached over 50,000 disadvantaged children with its
programs. Soundstations:

When did you 'know' that you would be a singer?
I think I knew I would be a singer when I was about 13 as I loved to sing hymns in school assembly and my voice seemed to project well. I really wanted to learn singing at school which we could start doing at 14 but one of my friends put me off. She had been having lessons and one night I asked her to teach me a song. When I sang the song to her she said I'd never be good enough to have lessons.
So I gave up on the dream for a while until Year 11 when I got up the courage to audition for the chorus of
Oklahoma, and I got the lead role! Everything suddenly felt right and I loved singing with all my heart. Though another teacher told me I'd never make it even when I was in my early twenties, I
never gave up on my intuition again and have continued to develop my technique and sing with my heart ever since.
Do you incorporate any spiritual aspects of your work into your day job?
Well in addition to performing I run an entertainment and event company so spend a lot of time on the phone, in meetings and at my computer. I do find it difficult to incorporate spirit into that work though I do everything with passion and love and try to communicate that to clients, artists and others I deal with.
Certainly when I sing and have coaching sessions I experience a form of active meditation as singing well requires great attention and awareness. And sometimes at performances I feel tingling as though everyone is connecting on another level. Music and operatic sound allows many people to transcend. Making the Soundsations
CD
was a very spiritual experience. We never wrote a single note down and I just sang where the music and mood took me - in one take!
What is your understanding of a modern goddess?
I understand the modern goddess to be an inspiring and feminine being that is able to share love and her unique gifts, make her dreams come true, show courage and be her best and connect with and help others along the journey.
What project are you working on now?
I am spending a lot of time working on the charity I founded called The Song Room. The Song Room aims to bring music into every child's education and lives and we have reached over 50,000 disadvantaged kids with music programs so far. Participation in music has been proven to enhance self esteem, communication skills, teamwork, academic results and develop a desire for life long learning.
What aspects do you bring to the project that will see it succeed?
I bring my love, passion, talents, determination, networks and commitment to making a difference to the future.
What is your dream, and how do you see yourself achieving it?
I would like to spend more time singing and making more recordings and less time organising. I do not know how to achieve this yet as I am a good organiser. I am trying to find lots of people who have great organising and administrative skills so I can devote more time to my passion.
I also dream that The Song Room will be able to help bring music into the forefront of education in this country and maybe internationally.
